Our winter special is a delicious Gluten Free Ginger Cake! It has a moist ginger sponge packed with treacle and golden syrup. Perfectly complemented with a light lemon buttercream in the middle and an oaty ginger crumb on top.

Gluten Free Ginger Sponge with lemon butter icing, topped with a ginger crumble. 

Ingredients: self raising flour (rice, potato, tapioca, maize and buckwheat), raising agents (mono calcium phosphate, sodium bicarbonate), Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamine), margarine (palm oil, rapeseed oil, water, salt, emulsifier E475, flavouring, sunflower oil, colours (curcumin, annatto),sugar, free range egg, butter (milk), oats, golden syrup, ground ginger, treacle, milkalmonds, xanthan gum, natural lemon flavour and natural vanilla flavour.

ALLERGENS IN BOLD. Made in a kitchen which handles eggs, nuts, milk, soya & sulphites.

Our gluten free cakes are made in a separate coeliac society approved kitchen to our standard cakes, by a team who will only work in that kitchen all day and do not move between kitchens. Ingredients are stored separately and no equipment is shared between the gluten free kitchen and the kitchen where the rest of our cakes are made.

GET THAT SWEET SPOT

Buttercream loves a gentle warm-up, and brownies need a little patience to reach their soft, gooey magic. Our bakes have been chilling in transit and need time to be their best so if your sponge is a little dry give it some more time.

ROOM TEMP, BEST TEMP

Let your bake rest in their packaging for up to 12 hours or when it reaches room temperature. It will then be at its full, fluffy glory. Cake is always at its best when it’s cosy, not chilly.

KEEP IT FRESH

Pop leftovers in an airtight container and store somewhere cool and dry... no fridge chills or sunbathing, please! Keeping them at room temperature keeps your bakes soft, gooey, and full of joy.

FREEZE FOR FUTURE JOY

Celebration postponed? Wrap your cake carefully and freeze for up to six months. When you’re ready, thaw at room temperature to bring back that soft, fresh-baked magic you love.

Being a sponge club member I tend to indulge regularly with gluten free cakes, the ginger is probably our current favourite..the flavours & texture is really good....Please can you do a choice of df & gf cakes - starting with a ginger one! The ginger cake tasted lovely with the lemon filling running through it. Often one slice wasn’t enough. So glad I heard about your company. Well done delicious and our second cake in a month, We will be back for more. Bought as a gift for my mum who is celiac but loves cake. It went down a storm and was delicious. Cake didn't last long enough for me to try any but that can only be a good thing! According to other family who did eat it you couldn't tell it was a gf cake and they were all going back for an extra slice. One minor negative would be that even though it is gf, there is a note on the page to say gf cannot be guaranteed. This is a bit of a shame as complete peace of mind would be nice and maybe in future sponge should look to adjust their baking setup to ensure gf and get approval from the celiac uk like many other gf outlets. Having said this, the cake caused no issues and I'm sure sponge do all they can to ensure gf. The cake was large enough to feed all my friends on my birthday. Delicious gluten free ginger cake. My Mother loved it it was a gift for mother's day, she said it was excellent quality and very filling. Was looking forward to a lovely moist ginger cake but unfortunately found it a little dry and crumbly as did others that shared it, all other sponges from you are superb, just this one wasn’t as good as usual, sorry ;( Icing was good and thick. The gluten free Ginger cake was a lovely light subtle ginger, not too heavy and overpowering. Enjoyed the crunchy topping and would order it again. Our third cake was just as wonderful as the first. I’ve tried baking gf cakes, but mine pale in comparison. We’ll be back Sponge! This cake was not up to your usual flavour standards. Perhaps the baker on the day forgot to add ginger spice to the cake mix? I also expect a richer more unctuous ginger cake. Sent as a gift, the recipients absolutely loved it! The ginger is amazing and the lemon butter cream compliments it perfectly. Perfect for a keen baker who is now on a gluten free diet. Oh and is a ginger lover! Apparently you couldn’t tell the difference. High praise indeed. This was the best gluten free cake we have ever had ..... Even our sons, who are quite dismissive of gluten free products, thought it was really delicious. It was eaten up in no time at all ! I sent this cake to my son as he was recovering from Covid. He had never had anything gluten free and wasn’t sure he would like it but he was very pleasantly surprised. He said it was delicious. I already knew it would be, having enjoyed several gluten free cakes from Sponge. Fantastic flavour, you could really taste the ginger, texture of the cake was perfect, nice and moist and lovely butter cream. Although your website specifies the cakes are good for 10 days, once tasted it was gone in 2 ! Absolutely loved it!!! My husband and I ate it all within 4 days!! We don’t need to buy gluten free for health reasons but we both love ginger and lemon so gave it a try , I’m now tempted to buy a number of them to freeze in case you stop making them lol. the sponge was slightly dry - something you have managed to avoid on other cakes. The butter icing didn’t seem to go with the ginger cake, so didn’t help the lack of moisture. The ginger also needed to be stronger. Maybe my fault for imagining a moist, sticky ginger cake - but I have loved your other gluten free cakes.
