The big day is creeping up on us, this special day in the year when we celebrate with our better halves the love we share. This year, as with most things, we aren’t going to be able to do the usual activities that we normally would. No going out for dinner, or to the cinema, or the usual trips we would make on Valentine’s day. This year we’ll have to celebrate at home, but it can still be made special. We’ve put together some suggestions to create a wonderful Valentine’s day for your loved one.
A Picnic At Home
If you’re looking for a lovely way to celebrate, why not have an at home picnic? It’s a great idea, if the weather is nice and you have some outdoor space, grab a blanket. You could do it during day while the sun is shining, or get some safe lighting and have a picnic under the stars.
If you’re lacking in space, or the weather isn’t quite right, why not have a living room picnic? Just set up the blanket on the living room floor, put on some music, and enjoy yourselves.
There are great options for food, you could make your own dishes, or have a simple picky picnic, with sandwiches, crudités, etc. it’s also a great activity if you want to get your kids involved in your celebrations. And why not have some cake and brownies to finish the picnic off.

A lot of restaurants are offering takeaway services at the moment, and Valentine’s day is usually a big day for them. So, you could support them still by booking a takeaway from them – you may want to check you don’t have to book in advance, or if they are still offering the service in advanced. Or, if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, learn how to recreate your favourite restaurant dish in the comfort of your own home. There are plenty of recipes out there now on how to recreate your favourites.
Then all you need to do is set up your dining room to suit, perhaps a nice table cloth, a candle, set the table, and you may even set it up with some fancy napkin folding. It’s intimate and romantic, the perfect way to celebrate with the person you love.
As for dessert, well we have that covered. Our top pick to end the meal is one of our delicious brownies. They are just the perfect way to finish off a romantic evening. We would recommend warming it up and adding some ice-cream for an indulgent pudding to share, or there’s more than enough to have one each.
An Afternoon Tea
What could be better than an afternoon tea? It’s a great way to celebrate with loved ones, all you need to do is make some sandwiches, and maybe some other savoury nibbles. You could use a tiered plate, but if you don’t have one, just put the food out on several normal plates like a buffet. Brew a pot of tea or coffee, or if you want something a bit fancier, you could even go for a sparkling afternoon tea with a bottle of prosecco.
