A Love Letter to Chocolate Fudge Cake
Chocolate Fudge Cake. Three little words that instantly bring to mind so many memories, moments and magic
Chocolate Fudge Cake. Three little words that instantly bring to mind smears on favorite white tops, sneaky licks of the spoon, and walking through the door to celebrate your BFF's big move.
You've been there through it all—the dessert of choice, the joy-bringer, the showstopper. Never letting us down on birthdays, treat days, or those “shall-we-share-something-sweet?” days.
Our love affair began at the dinner table, a spoon in hand, when a new contender entered the game. You, of course, knew chocolate, but this was something else—richer, more indulgent, and always demanding just one more bite. Care was tossed aside, and before you knew it, hands were messy, tummy was full, and joy was overflowing.
Over the years, at every party, get-together, or gathering, I’d secretly hope for that glorious moment—the entrance of the plate, held aloft, showcasing the chocolate fudge cake. And yet, time and time again, I’d hide my disappointment when another dessert made its appearance. It was almost easier to bear when something equally as decadent showed up. Almost.
Smiling through chocolate-covered teeth, singing at the top of my lungs, and wondering if anyone noticed me sneaking another slice, you've been the moment of jubilation—the sugar-fueled abandon of every celebration.
It wasn't until later, on a Friday that didn’t quite live up to expectations, needing something to lift my mood. I spotted you on the evening trip to the shops. Ah yes, my treat—just the thought of you brought back those sweet memories. As you were carefully placed in your box, I closed my eyes for a moment, savouring the memory of that first bite, and the joy you’ve always brought.
Now you have become the one to make me smile; not just in celebratory laughter but in a knowing grin. My co-conspirator against bad moods and spoilsports, against chatty cathys and just generally being in a huff.
So what all this letter is trying to say is thank you… thank you for always leaving a sweet taste in my mouth, for coming through in celebration and in comfort, and most of all, for knowing the way to my heart. And here is to the moments we are to share, the smiles we will see and the memories we will make.
We love you, chocolate cake.
