Sponge At BBC Good Food Winter Show

Did you see us at the show this year?

At the end of November 2021, we travelled down from Norfolk, across the country with our destination being The BBC Good Food Winter Show at the National Exhibition Center (aka the NEC) in Birmingham. The show ran the 25th - 28th November 2021. Dan and Jaison were there to set up on Wednesday the 24th, ready for the show to kick off Thursday morning. There was a slight delay with their arrival as they may have taken an unplanned detour by accident. Regardless of the journey, we got there in time to make sure we were ready to go for the grand opening of The BBC Good Food Winter Show, with plenty of cakes for you all to enjoy.

It’s always hard to gauge how well shows ad exhibitions are going to go, a variety of factors come into the popularity of events. But we have to say the Thursday was a thrill, when the doors opened and we were greeting the first flurry of visitors to the exhibition through the door and past our stall it was fantastic. There was a lot of keen people buying straight away and it was great to talk to so many people about Sponge, and even better when we were stopped and told, “We already know about your company we use you all of the time”. It’s just heart-warming to meet so many supporters of our business.

The next few days were event just as exciting as the first, with lots of people stopping to talk to us, we introduced a few to our Cake Cards, and others who had sent them before loved the fact that they got to stop and see the product that their recipient was wowed by. Equally many stopped to admire our display of Christmas Cake Specials, including our Pinata cake and red velvet snowball which drew a lot of people in asking how we did that (we couldn’t reveal our secret).

We were rushed off our feet for the majority of our time there, even with Isabel joining Dan and Jaison on Saturday and Sunday, we were running back and forth to make sure people were able to purchase lots of cakes at the show.

There were obviously lots of restrictions in place to try and keep everyone safe during our time there, but they didn’t hinder the enjoyment of the event at all. There were other challenges faced at the weekend, as Birmingham was hit with a flurry of snow thanks to Storm Arwen, and although it did make it a bit more challenging for some to arrive at the show, it also made this winter event even more magical.

All in all, we absolutely loved being a part of the BBC Good Food Winter Show. Whether you’re thinking of exhibiting there or going as a visitor to find new kitchen equipment or discover products you’ve not come across before, we would recommend visiting the BBC Good Food Show at least once.

They have lots of things going on, including demonstrations from special guests. Their guests at the Winter Show 2021 included James Martin, Nadiya Hussain, Tom Kerridge, The Hairy Bikers, and more. Along with other demonstrations scattered around the venue, so, there was never a dull moment!

You can book your tickets to the BBC Good Food Summer Show which is at Birmingham NEC once more between 16th-19th June 2022 on their website.
