Thank You Teacher Gifts

Give them a gift to show you’re grateful

At the end of the school year, kids are all excited for the fun that they are going to have over the summer holiday. But it should also be a time of reflecting on all that has happened in the year. All of the things they have learned and who helped them grow educationally.

A lot of us know a teacher, and we’ve heard how much dedication it takes, from teaching lessons, to creating lesson plans and marking work, there’s an awful lot that they do that we don’t see. You have to be a special kind of person to be a teacher, and you need to have. A lot of passion for what you do to be one.

So, at the end of the school year we should all say a big thank you to all of the teachers across the country, we don’t know what we would do without them!

If you have a special teacher in mind this year, why not say a great big thank you to them by giving them a gift that will make them smile.

Traditionally when we think of giving teachers a gift, we think about giving them an apple. Apples are synonymous with gifting for teachers, although it’s not actually common practice to do so in the UK. Like a lot of things now, gifting a teacher an apple actually originated in the United States in the 19th Century. There are a few reasons why the tradition of giving teachers apples started (although the actual origins are unknown.

The first is that the apple is a symbol of knowledge, they have. Long been associated with knowledge and learning. Greek mythology showed portrays apples as a symbol of wisdom and immortality. In the bible, the story of Adam and Eve shows the apple depicted as the forbidden fruit. This indicates that offering an apple to a teacher symbolises the pursuit of knowledge and show appreciation for the teacher’s role in imparting wisdom.

Another reason as to why teachers were often gifted apples is practicality and availability. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, it was common for students in rural areas to bring food to their one-room schoolhouses to pay for their education. Apples were plentiful and easy to transport, as well as being able to be preserved for longer periods.

The third reason could be cultural references, inn some cultures the apple has specific connotations related to teaching. One example is from Denmark, it was customary for students to give their teachers apples or flowers on the first day of school as a sign of respect and gratitude.

All that aside, we think apples are a bit boring now, so if you’re looking for a fun gift to send to your teacher, here are our top suggestions:
