Sponge Heroes February Winners

Who are our February Sponge Heroes?

As lockdown 3.0 continued into February we wanted to continue lifting spirits in February, so we carried on with our alternative Sponge Heroes competition, getting you to nominate people who needed a bit of a pick me up. We had so many stories sent to us yet again, and we were narrowed it down a chose four winners to receive four Cakes (one each) to the winning nominees and four Cake Cards (one each) to the people that nominated them! We were sent so many nominations again, and every story was wonderful. Here are the four winners of our February competition:

Marie J was our first winner, she was nominated by Michelle. Marie has been working tirelessly for Royal mail, as we all know they have been up against extreme pressures lately with a lot of us ordering goods to be delivered to our homes. She has been going above and beyond over the last few months, taking on extra shifts/hours and covering where she can for colleagues who have been taken ill or needed to isolate. On top of all of that, she's continued to check in with her friends and family to makes sure everyone is okay and has everything they need. She also continues to raise money for the Royal Mails nominated charity to help make a difference in people's lives and is a worthy winner of a delicious cake.

Paris T is another winner, nominated by Marie. Paris was a hairdresser and put her job on hold when covid-19 hit and has since become a personal assistant for Marie’s disabled daughter. She has gone above and beyond to support Marie’s daughter and their family throughout the pandemic, despite the challenges that have faced her. She definitely deserves a cake for all of her efforts this year.

Jenny L is our third winner who was nominated by Catherine. Jenny and her friend took a bold step just before the lockdown, they decided to open their own hairdressing salon, which obviously has been impacted severely due to the pandemic. On top of this, she has been supporting family members who have had health issues over the last year. She has also started a Facebook group after her 5-year-old daughter asked for a litter picker for Christmas and has started litter picking. The group encourages other children to safely get involved with litter picking activities. Despite a tough year Jenny has remained positive and has done all she can to make the best of a bad situation and continues to do positive things to help her community, making her a worthy winner.

Caroline M is our final winner for February, nominated by her friend Lisa. Caroline works for a children’s A & E department, making sure that any children that come in are well looked after and given the best possible care alongside her team, even throughout the challenging circumstances that have been presented. On top of this Caroline cares for her son who has numerous health issues, but continues to have a positive attitude no matter what challenges she faces. She really is a hero for all she does.
