Last week we were kindly invited to help judge the British Airways Operations Team's Cake Competition, alongside their judge Sinead Ferguson - British Airways Menu Design Manager. Needless to say we didn't take much (any) persuading to spend the morning trying a variety of different cakes!

The cake-off event was held by the Operations Team to raise money for their Flying Start Charity. Lots of the team got involved, donned pinnies and whipped up their best baked creations. There was a definite air of excitement and friendly rivalry as we arrived in the judging room. We couldn't wait to get stuck in...

The table was laid out with a variety of different bakes including sponge cakes, cheesecakes, cupcakes, loaves, brownies, tortes, buns and even a sugar-free and flour-free chocolate cake! It seems the team were all inspired by The Great British Bake Off - not only were there some fantastic bakes and delicious flavour combinations but there were also a few soggy bottoms and under-baked surprises lurking!

We awarded four prizes based on a combination of appearance, taste and texture: 1st prize for the best cake all round, 2nd prize for the best cheesecake and then special prizes in the form of Sponge aprons for the winners of the best dietary cake and our favourite special cake.

Congratulations to the team on raising £250 and for all those that took part.

Just to get your mouth watering a bit more we have included a selection of pictures of the cakes and event below!

Which one do you think looks the best?
